Renovation Project Aims to Improve Price Main Street

A renovation project in the near future on Price City Main Street will aim to improve the street block where the city hall and library are located. Improvements to the remainder of the street are also a possibility at a later date.

Jones & DeMille Engineering designed a Google Earth rendition of Main Street with a variety of improvements, including updated sidewalks, parkways, lighting and landscaping, and presented it at a recent Price City Council meeting.

The project will begin on Sept. 8 in front of city hall and Price City Peace Gardens. Starting on the east side of city hall on 200 East, the project will then move south to Main Street, then west on Main to 100 East. It will proceed north on 100 East to the concrete driveway accessing the West side of the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum.

“The project will include replacing the existing sidewalk, street lighting and trees to make the block a uniform design,” councilman Layne Miller said. “The project will take about 40 days to complete.”

Property owners on remaining blocks of Main Street will be able to invest in the same improvements in the future.

“We will go into it knowing that it’s going to be successful,” Price City Public Works Director Gary Sonntag explained. “We want people to understand that it is going to be fair and we are going to work with everybody on it.”

Officials hope that beginning the project by improving part of Main Street will encourage others to express interest in the same improvements.

“You’re going to have a model because we are going to do this regardless,” Mayor Joe Piccolo commented about the improvements. “They will see what they are going to get.”

Parking may be restricted in the area surrounding the city block, with the exception of the handicap parking used for city hall and the library, for the duration of the project. Those participating in and attending the Farmer’s Market should use the museum parking lot on the north side of the building.
