Carbon County local Rex Sacco is a well-known and loved individual throughout the local community. He has worked endlessly for many years to do all he can to make this area run like a well-oiled machine.

On Wednesday evening, the Carbon County Commissioners presented Sacco with a plaque honoring his retirement during the commission meeting. This presentation began with commissioner Jake Mellor reading a poem dedicated to retiring in honor of Sacco.

The plaque was then handed to Sacco in front of a packed audience. Sacco stated that he is a third generation Sacco working for Carbon County, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and uncle. Sacco began his work in 1974, working for the sheriff’s office. He worked there until 1978. At that time, he worked for the coal mine and the railroad until he returned to working for the county in 1987.

During this time, he started as an equipment operator with Carbon County before joining the GIS Department as a specialist. Sacco also started interrogation work that then segued into his experience with public lands. In 2007, Sacco was given his own budget in the Department of Public Lands and administered the road system.

“And here we are today,” Sacco concluded.

The commissioners then thanked Sacco for all of his hard work and dedication. Ex-commissioner John Jones was also in attendance and took the time to tell a short story that spotlighted Sacco’s hard work during Jones’ time as a commissioner.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to do something that has made a real difference in my life, and for the people of this town,” Sacco stated.
