Wellington City is now home to the 50 & 6 Diner and Country Store on Main Street. Members of the community celebrated with the business owners on Monday morning for a ribbon cutting in conjunction with the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce.
Mother and daughter duo Alyson Mark and Kathryn Dewees are co-owners of the 50 & 6 Diner and Country Store while Alyson’s husband Thomas is the head chef and baker at the diner. The family is originally from Indiana and relocated to Utah nearly four years ago. Upon discovering Wellington just over one year ago, the family immediately felt at home.
The family quickly wanted to do something to help the town and fulfill their dream of owning a business.
“Everything just kind of fell into place,” Alyson said. “We did everything out of pocket. It is still rough, there is still work to be done, and we have a bigger dream for this location.” She explained that the family wants to have the diner in the front, the store in the back and a soda bar in the future.
Currently, the establishment features a diner with specialty sandwiches, homemade chips, floats, fresh baked cookies and more. The store is stocked with wares, such as jewelry, t-shirts, metalwork and more, from local artists and creators.
“I could stand here all day and name all the wonderful people that have helped us,” Alyson said following the ribbon cutting ceremony. “Thank you for all those that helped us get to this point. What a wonderful celebration. We still have big dreams of growing and expanding.”
The 50 & 6 Diner and Country Store is located at 1939 East Main Street in Wellington. The business is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p,.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Food is available daily Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
