Richfield’s Red-Hot Effort Ends Spartan’s Title Aspiration

The third meeting between Emery and Richfield occurred in the state semifinal game on Friday night. Richfield won the previous two meeting and immediately showed that it was the superior team. The Wildcats could not miss in the first half and shot an incredible 70% from three and 71% from the field. Even with ultra efficient half from Richfield, the Spartans were still within striking distance down 42-30.

The Spartans traded buckets with the Wildcats in the third quarter and held even with them for the quarter. But the damage was already done as Emery never could chip away at the lead. During the forth quarter, Emery started to press and take a lot of chances defensively and quick shots on offense to try to get back in the game but the effort was fruitless. Richfield was able to open the game wide open and win 81-57.

Brax Jensen had a remarkable game with 12 points and eight assists. He was the bright spot on offense with his decision making and played an aggressive game. Richfield play tough on Kyson Stilson and held him to only 10 points. Kyler Wilstead led the team with nine rebounds and had nine points along with Brodie Tuttle and Mason Faimalo.

The Spartans played their guts out but Richfield was simply the better team. Emery will play Manti for the third place spot tomorrow at 3pm.
