Price native Robbie Mitchell took to the Glen Helen Raceway over the weekend of Sept. 25-27 in a World Off-Road Championship Series event. Mitchell hadn’t raced since taking third in Washington state in August.
Needing to just finish the race to wrap up third place in the series, Mitchell finished in third in round eight in San Bernardino, Calif.
Mitchell began the Sunday race nearly taking the holeshot.
“It was close between me Beau (Baron) and David (Haagsma) heading into the first turn,” Mitchell said. “They squeezed me out and I came out of the first turn in a very close third.”
Mitchell said he rode really tight for the first 30 minutes of the race but was able to settle down and finish the race strong.
“Luckily, I was able to calm myself down and loosen up,” he said. “I rode pretty well until the halfway point of the race. Then I started pushing a little harder each lap. I was really hoping my lap times would pick up, but it didn’t work out as well as I had hoped.”
Mitchell crossed the finish line in third, wrapping up an overall third place finish in the series.
“It would be a lie if I said I wasn’t a little bummed not getting the win,” he said. “But the important thing was to lock down third in points one round early. Now I can go into the final round of the season with nothing to lose.”
The ninth and final round of the series will take place Oct 16-19 in Primm, Nev.
