Price resident Robbie Mitchell has stayed busy on the track, facing three rounds in the WORCS racing season.
“I have had some bad finishes the last few races,” Mitchell admitted. Mid-April found the racer at the Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane. After a slow start, Mitchell was able to move to third and continued battling there with fellow racer Garrin Fuller. When Fuller went down, however, Mitchell was faced with a choice.
“I could have had second,” he explained, “but I couldn’t leave him laying there.” The racer stopped, helped his opponent and stayed by his side until he was sure the racer was in proper condition. Continuing his race, Mitchell then made a comeback to finish fourth at Sand Hollow.
In the next round of racing, in Mesquite three weeks later, Mitchell faced a setback as, during the climax of the race as he was gaining on first, the chain of his bike broke. After emergency repairs, Mitchell found himself finishing eighth.
Though racing well over Memorial Day weekend in Cedar City, Mitchell suffered from what he feels is an electrical issue that detrimentally affected his bike. Battling with Mike Sloan for the majority of the race, Mitchell ended up taking third after Sloan’s bike broke.
“It’s not how I wanted to get a podium spot,” Mitchell said, “but that’s racing.”
Mitchell remains grateful to his wife, BreAnn, as well as his sponsors for all their support and help in allowing the racer to pursue his passion.
Mitchell will next face off against fellow racers the weekend of Sept. 16 in Devore, Calif. at the Glen Helen Raceway.
