Dry lightning sparked a blaze approximately 15 miles east of East Carbon on June 13. The fire has been active since, but has only consumed 235 acres thus far.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the Rock Creek Fire is not being listed as contained at this time, but one fire crew was released from fighting the blaze leaving only a helicopter and a hot shot crew to contain flames. Forest Service personnel explained that the situation is improving, with no signs of future problems.

The Rock Creek Fire is burning on both state and Bureau of Land Management property.
