The holidays are a time to enjoy family and celebrate the ending of the year. New Year’s Eve in particular is a festive evening that people highly enjoy. However, it is also one of the most dangerous nights of the year.

According to www.bactrack.com, the U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reports that 40% of traffic-related deaths during Christmas and New Year’s involve drunk drivers, a 12% increase over the rest of the month of December.

While it’s natural to want to celebrate the New Year and spend time with friends and family, there are safe ways to do it. Always have a designated driver assigned or simply make plans to spend the evening where you are celebrating.

Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood stated that he believes that people are becoming more cautious and responsible about drinking and driving. Without digging into files for statistics, he believes that drunk driving accidents used to spike around this time, but have gone down.

The efforts of law enforcement are paying off in Wood’s opinion. He also stated that the sheriff’s office will increase patrol for the holiday.

“Always have a designated driver and enjoy the holiday season, but be careful,” Wood stated.

The Taxi Crab is a taxi business that serves the area and is happy to assist. There will be two cars running on New Year’s Eve along with a delivery vehicle. The easiest way to contact Taxi Crab is by calling them at (435) 637-CRAB for a safe and affordable alternative this holiday season.
