The Emery County American Legion, San Rafael students and the community gathered at San Rafael Junior High Wednesday morning to honor veterans who have served the country.
The program began with the song “America the Beautiful” sung by the 8th and 9th grade choir students. Soloists were Katrina Becker and Shawn Giroux.
Ky Horrocks, a teacher at the school, spoke to the crowd about the history of Veterans Day. He encouraged all who were in attendance to support those who serve the country every day.
Carlie Robinson, the first place winner of the Veteran’s Day essay contest, read her essay, which included different ways that Americans can support the troops.
The program also included several slideshows that were made by students to honor those who serve.
The program concluded wirh remarks from principal Doug Mecham, who talked about thanking servicemen. The students were encouraged to thank the veterans in attendance on their way out of the gymnasium.
