Students from San Rafael Junior High School gathered at the school on Monday evening to entertain family and friends in their annual winter band concert.
Heidi Hill directed the jazz ensemble, also known as The Roly Polies, as they played “Jingle Bells,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Home for the Holidays,” all arranged by Hill. There were solos from Trey Furner, Walker Woolsey, Kaydee Deto, Jesse Brawn, Peter Ouzts, Dylan Bloomer, Trey Furner and Ethan Anderson.
The Grey Band then played “To a New Beginning” by James Swearingen, “The Christmas Song” by Torme and Wells and arranged by Michael Sweeney, and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” arranged by Michael Sweeney.
“A Holly Jolly Christmas” by Johnny Marks, arranged by Michael Sweeney, was played by the White Band. Then, the Blue and White Band played “Snow Day” by Len Orcino, “Two Austian Carols” arranged by Paul Murtha and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” by Johnny Marks, arranged by Michael Sweeney.
The band concert ended with the Blue Band playing “Two Celtic Folksongs” arranged by Paul Lavender, “Selections from Pocahontas” by Menken and Schwartz, arranged by Michael sweeny and “Do You Hear What I Hear” by Regney and Shayce, arranged by Jerry Nowak.
“My students did great,” Hill said. “They’ve worked really hard. Some of the pieces they’ve been working on since September and I think they pulled it off just perfectly.”
