Scoring on the Rodeo Trail Again

Carbon’s Kagen Rhodes placed well in the shooting sports over the weekend.

The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans were on the rodeo trail again over the weekend as they participated in the Southern Utah County (SUC) Rodeo in Spanish Fork.

Scoring more points toward a birth at state finals were Abbie McElprang, tenth in breakaway roping, Will and Wyatt Magnuson, third in team roping, and Korby and Byron Christiansen in fourth and tenth, respectively, in reining cow horse. In the shooting sports, Carbon Dino Kagen Rhodes was third in rifle and seventh in trap shooting.

Team members also competed in Nephi at the Juab High School Rodeo. Korby Christiansen earned second in saddle bronc, and he and his brother Byron also finished sixth in team roping. Rhodes shined again in the shooting sports with a sixth place in rifle and fifth in trap shooting.

The Emery team had a some misfortune when teammate Jessica Fox broke bones in her leg while competing in the goat tying. This will keep her out of the saddle for a few weeks but she has hopes of being ready for state finals in June. Rhodes placed third at the Southern Utah County Rodeo and sixth at Juab in rifle shooting.

In the Emery Junior High Club, Ryter Ekker took second at SUC and fourth at Juab, Shalako Gunter finished ninth at Juab while Kashley Rhodes earned fifth at SUC and tenth at Juab.
