Debbie Pappas of Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation was recently surprised by a local business manager who made a generous donation to the nonprofit organization.

Kyle Heffernan of Sutherlands in Price learned not long ago that Pappas and her volunteer staff had no cabinets in their facility as they cared for abandoned or otherwise injured wildlife of the area.

As a nonprofit organization, supplies are often hard to come by. Heffernan wished to assist in any way he could.

This assistance came in the form of Heffernan and Sutherlands donating a plethora of cabinets to Second Chance that were installed within their facility to better equip them as they care for various creatures. Following the delivery by Sutherlands staff, Dedicated Hunters through the Division of Wildlife Resources then installed them.

Pappas remarked on what a wonderful donation the cabinets were as they had been working out of boxes for the past three years. Additionally,  Heffernan measured for counter tops, which will also be donated.

Due to the assistance and care from Heffernan, Pappas and her staff made the decision to welcome him as a member of the board. She stated that she admires Heffernan’s work and wishes to have him in the organization.

Pappas would also like to remind all that the time for baby creatures to be born is still upon us. Some species of birds and mammals will have multiple batches of babies throughout the season. Baby season will likely not end until August and Pappas once again urges those that locate one to snap a photo, give her a call and let her further assist.

She also wishes to remind all that the old wives tale of a baby being rejected once touched is just that: a tale. Finally, Pappas requests that when a nest is seen in the eaves of a home, in trees or bushes, or when an animal such as a raccoon gives birth nearby, to simply leave them be until they are fit to move on.
