At approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday a semi-truck’s brakes caught fire on I-70 near the Hanksville exit. When the brakes caught fire, the driver of the truck pulled off the road to attempt to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher from the cab. The small extinguisher was unable to put out the flames, causing the fire to grow. The truck and trailer ultimately burned and spread to cause a small brush fire nearby.

Fire personnel arrived on scene and were able to promptly put out the flames, explained Corporal Todd Johnson from the Utah Highway Patrol. The driver of the semi-truck sustained injuries to his hand when a tire exploded as he attempted to put out the flames. He was transported to an unknown hospital for treatment.
