It was senior night on Friday for the Carbon boys’ basketball team. Jon Zamantakis, Ty Anderson, Braxton Bennett, Collin Lewis and Derek Hillam were all honored for the hard work and dedication that they have shown to the program.
It was then time for the Dinos to take on the number one Providence Hall Patriots. Carbon was the first to strike and they were unconscious from beyond the arc to begin the game. The Dinos would jump out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter of play.
It was all Patriots for the rest of the game. They tied the game at 23 by halftime and then gained a 13 point advantage in the third quarter. The Dinos ultimately fell, 58-40.
Derek Hillam led the team with 18 points and six rebounds. The Dinos were able to force 15 turnovers, which led to their early lead but they could not sustain their initial shooting success. Carbon shot 27% from the field. Providence Hall, on the other hand, converted on 62% of their shots, including 57% from the three-point line.
Carbon only has one game this week, which will take place in Orem at Maeser Prep on Wednesday night. The Dinos won the previous match against the Lions by nine at home earlier in the year.
