The Dinos will take to the mat this upcoming season with a large senior class that has been groomed the past three years for this moment. Coach Brock Fausett said that they are blessed to have such a strong group of leaders that understand the program and what it takes to be successful. Their example is a huge plus for the team, he explained.
Coach Fausett not only has high expectations for the seniors, but for his whole team. Carbon will have 12 returners that qualified for state last year, three of which placed in state. Bobby Blake and Connor Fausett will return after taking fourth in their weight classes and sophomore Bryce Judd will return after placing sixth as a freshman.
The Dinos are expected to be tough in the middle classes from 125 to 170 lbs. and look to gain experience in the upper weight classes. The goal is for every wrestler, both boy and girl, to improve their individual skill set as the season goes on.
Carbon is in one of the toughest regions in the state as Juab and Delta, the state champion and runner-up, respectively, are each in their region. Union is also expected to have a highly-competitive team and the Dinos expect to match up well against them.
“We are used to going against the best,” Fausett said. “It is a good challenge.”
These athletes and their parents put a huge effort into this sport as the match never truly ends, Fausett explained. They are constantly watching their physique and getting ready mentally to rise to the challenge to be in optimal condition as they compete.
The team is also excited for the heavy home schedule it will have this year as the Dinos have an opportunity to showcase to the community and their supporters their talents and the work they have put in since their summer camps.
