A specially-scheduled meeting was hosted in the Carbon County Commission Chambers on Tuesday afternoon to appoint Seth Marsing as the interim clerk/auditor for the remainder of the 2018 year.

This appointment was necessary due to the previous clerk/auditor, Seth Oveson, retiring. Commission Chair Jake Mellor, along with assistance from County Attorney Christian Bryner, explained the situation from the official and legal standpoints.

Due to Oveson being a member of the republican party, the procedure is to give notice of vacancy to the party liaison of the same party as the prior holder and invite the liaison to submit the name of a person to fill the vacancy. The recommendation of Marsing to fill the position was then made by the republican party.

The commissioners were then required to respond to the appointment recommendation within five days of it being made. Commissioner Casey Hopes then made the nomination to appoint Marsing as the interim clerk/auditor for the remainder of the 2018 year. This was approved unanimously by the commissioners.
