An anonymous tip led the East Carbon Police Department to a home at 126 Schuman on Wednesday, where they arrested 23-year-old Jessica Urban and 22-year-old Christopher Pittenger after allegedly finding 17 marijuana plants, literature on how to grow marijuana, illegal prescription narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

According to Officer Philip Holt, the tip was provided to Officer Shawn Shumway by an acquaintance of the couple. The tip led quickly to a warrant being issued.

Police Chief Sam Leonard and Officers Kelsey Shumway, Holt and Sacket served the warrant at approximately 10 p.m. that evening. Holt said theВ  bust went without a hitch, adding that the suspects were “extremely cooperative”.

“It’s always a rush for us to get a bust like this,” Holt said. “They were booked into jail on cultivating marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and also possession of prescription narcotics.”

Officer Holt reported that the couple told officers they had just recently moved to East Carbon from Pennsylvania.В  Holt expressed he was surprised at the couple’s brazenness. “It was a surprise to us that these people could move into town and think they could get away with something like this,” he said.

The East Carbon Police Department encourages citizens to be proactive in protecting the community . “I would just encourage people if they have a suspicion about anybody doing drugs, manufacturing drugs, or growing drugs to give us a phone call and let us know so we can look into it,” Holt said.
