A severe thunderstorm watch has been announced on Friday for Carbon and Emery counties, as well as surrounding areas. The National Weather Service issues this watch in effect until 7 p.m.
Additionally, a flood watch was reported that may affect the entire Castle Country area. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. The areas that could be affected include Castle Country, the San Rafael Swell, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, Capitol Reef National Park and Vicinity, Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, South Central Utah and Western Canyonlands.
The weather service stated that heavy rainfall may result in flooding of slot canyons, burn scars, normally dry washes and other areas that are flood-prone.
“Anomalously high moisture content air will combine with a mid level disturbance to aid in the development of strong thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall,” the weather service shared.
Any that may be affected by this watch are urged to monitor later forecasts and be alert for the possible flood warnings. Those that are living within areas that are prone to flooding are cautioned to be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
