After 33 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Emery County, Sgt. Leslie Wilberg has bid farewell to the sheriff’s office.
Wilberg’s career with the Emery County Sheriff’s Office began in 1985 when he was employed as a dispatcher. After he graduated from the Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Academy, he served as a patrol deputy for five years before beginning work in investigations for 10.
Wilberg was then promoted to sergeant over a patrol crew and has worked the road since that time. He also served as the ECSO Liaison to the Emery County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team for “more years than he can remember” and was a member of the rope rescue team, according to the sheriff’s office.
“I will miss Les’ experience and his willingness to come to me with suggestions and advice,” said Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk. “Les was always spot on with his ideas, and I learned early on to listen to him.”
The new retiree is currently serving on the Emery County Planning and Zoning Council and is a guest on the county’s trails council. He has also expressed desire to be involved with the Public Lands Council.
“He recently certified as a trail CAT operator for the BLM and will start grooming trails for them as a volunteer later this week,” the sheriff’s office shared. “He also hopes to be instrumental in establishing motorless routes throughout Emery County.”
Wilberg and his wife Linda are the parents of four children, who have blessed them with three grandchildren. When asked about his immediate plans after retirement, Wilberg stated that after being a law enforcement officer for 33 years, he was going to “take some time to find out who Les Wilberg is again… and go from there.”
“Thank you Sgt. Wilberg for your dedicated service,” the sheriff’s office expressed. “Enjoy retirement.”
