The honor of the first Carbon County Employee of the Month in 2019 was presented Wednesday evening at the inaugural 2019 commission meeting. This honor was given to Michael Perry with the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.

Carbon County Human Resources Director Rose Barnes, Sheriff Jeff Wood and Sargeant Adam Cox spoke during this presentation. Perry was nominated by Cox due to actions taken at the jail a few months ago as an inmate attacked him while being the only one working on the floor.

According to Cox, Perry reacted well and reverted to his training that was received at the sheriff’s office and POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training). Sheriff Wood also stated that Perry was the only one on the floor with the jail holding 88 inmates. He reflected on what a large task it is that Perry excels at.

“I’m proud of him. I appreciate all that he does,” Sheriff Wood said.

Perry also spoke, thanking Sgt. Cox for the nomination. He also informed those in attendance and watching online that it was only Perry and Cox present during the situation and that Cox also handled it per his training by remaining in the control room, which could not have been easy for him and took a great deal of courage.

Perry then thanked his wife and family for understanding the sacrifice that he makes to keep the community safe and for understanding what can happen while on the job.
