Members of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office made a special trip Price to participate in Shop with a Cop program on Wednesday evening. This is a program where children pair up with an officer to complete their Christmas shopping.
In total, there were 14 officers strolling around Walmart with the youngsters. There were 14 children that participated in the program this year and there was a maximum of $200 that could be spent for each child. To fund the program, $1,500 was awarded from the Walmart Foundation, which was not the end of the money given.
Also received was $900 in donations from local citizens and businesses to help cover the costs. There were many smiles and kind gestures passed between the young children and participating adults during this event. Not only did the children look for what was on their wish list, but they also searched for items that a sibling or parent might want to find under the tree.
Officers often look forward to this event due to the opportunity to spend time with kids and give them a positive experience with local law enforcement. Members of the sheriff’s office are already looking forward to next year.
“ECSO will gladly accept donations in any amount year round, and 100% of the funds go directly to the children,” the office shared. “The need is great in Emery County and we would like to include even more children next year. If you would like to donate to the program, please contact the Emery County Sheriff’s Office at (435)381-2404.”
The Emery County Sheriff’s Office would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
