A slow first quarter doomed the Lady Pirates in Friday’s matchup against Monument Valley as the team fell 64-44 at home.

The teams were on opposite ends of the spectrum in the first quarter with Monument Valley scoring a game high 21 points while keeping Green River to a game low six points. The Pirates ramped up their efforts in the second, adding 16 to the score to trail 39-22 at the half.

The Green River squad was not able to make up its deficit as it was outscored 25-22 in the second half, taking the Region 19 loss.

Daniela Mendez led the Lady Pirates with 16 points, including two treys. Talynn Lovato was the other Pirate with double figures, adding 13. Six other Pirates added to the team’s efforts.

Green River (3-10, 1-3 Region 19) will look to rebound on Wednesday as the team hosts Pinnacle (7-9, 0-2 Region 19) for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
