Saturday afternoon was an eventful one at Sutherlands as Castleview Hospital hosted its Smoke Out Tobacco Competition in conjunction with a Father’s Day celebration. The event started at 11:30 a.m. and ran until 2:30 p.m. during the Sutherlands Father’s Day Expo and Sale.
The smoke out competition featured prizes for the top three finishers. These competitors had to prepare any dish using a smoker in the event which encouraged attendees to “Smoke Meat, Not Tobacco.”
The winner of the $500 Sutherlands gift card was Jed Baker, who smoked pulled pork. Kent Olsen took second place and a $250 gift card with his smoked mac and cheese. Third place and $100 went to Jenn Colosimo for her blackberry bourbon streusel.
Those in attendance at the expo were treated to free samples from the competitors following the judging.
