Soroptimist International of Price recently hosted its second annual Paint and SI-p night on Saturday, which gave locals the opportunity to not only enjoy good company and a fun evening but also to help a charitable cause.
The women’s organization, aimed at bettering lives of women and girls in the local community and worldwide, has offered help to Carbon County for over 50 years.
“The club has been in the community for 62 years now,” said past club president Terry Willis.
Besides Paint and SI-p nights, which have been a large success and sold out both years, the club has hosted a wine tasting event annually for 44 years.
“We do several fundraisers a year,” said Willis. Willis further explained how money from the projects are used in a variety of means in the area.
Notably, money from recent events will be used to offer three grants totaling $1,500 to three women in the Carbon County area acting as the head of their households.
Willis said the grants are given to the women in an effort to assist them in furthering their education or training in the best way the individual sees.
“We don’t care,” said Willis in speaking of how the grant money may be used for training, clothing for job interviews or certification programs, among others, “We just know that that money will be put to use to continue and remain in their training.”
The club also helps out in other ways in the community including working with the local Boys & Girls Club, health clinics and working with female student athletes in procuring needed supplies or helping to pay fees.
The night included a chance for those in attendance to enjoy light conversation, their choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage, light refreshments and the opportunity to create a work of art to take home.
