SEUHD Press Release

Southeast Utah Health Department (SEUHD) was recently awarded $370,000 for Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) funding.

“We applied for these funds in order to establish a local, home-based visiting program to promote early development, learning and health of children” stated Sara Braby, SEUHD Nursing Director. This grant was submitted in July to the Utah Office of Home Visiting and award notification was given at the beginning of August.

Braby and the rest of the staff at the Southeast Utah Health Department are excited for this opportunity to give back to the community and be able to help those who need these services.

This grant will allow SEUHD to hire two nurses to implement the Parents as Teachers evidence-based home visiting model. This allows SEUHD to better serve the communities in Carbon, Emery and Grand counties, which is the ultimate goal.

The Parents as Teachers program focuses on increasing parents’ knowledge of early childhood development, providing early detection of developmental delays and health issues, and increasing children’s school readiness and success. Families with children 0-5 years of age are eligible for services.

SEUHD is excited to continue partnering with those agencies that provide services to children and young parents and also believes this program will enhance WIC services in all three counties. The Southeast Utah Health Department is invested in these activities that promote health now and in the future.
