The Emery Spartans finished just seven points behind Region 15 Champion Richfield on Tuesday, taking a solid runner-up position in Blanding.
The Spartans finished with 43 points, taking positions five, seven, nine, ten and 12. Tanyon Allred was the top finisher for Emery, coming in with a time of 17:51.67.
Right behind Allred was Chase Christiansen in seventh, Bryar and McKay Meccarielo in ninth and 10th, and Ty Funk came in 12th. All five finished within 30 seconds of one another.
Seventeen other boys took part in the race as well.
On the girls’ side, Preslee Bringhurst placed in 47th overall. Amanda Peterson and Josie Gilbert also took part in the race.
Emery will take part in the 2017 Utah UHSAA State Cross Country Championships next Wednesday at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.
