The Emery Spartan cross country team took part in two meets last week, a region tilt in South Sevier and another in Provo on Saturday against some of the best runners in the state.
In South Sevier on Wednesday, the boys’ team nabbed a second place showing behind the Richfield Wildcats, finishing just 10 points behind. The Spartans took fifth through eighth positions, with Chase Christiansen finishing with a time of 18:19. Bryar Meccariello, Tanyon Allred and McKay Meccariello were right after, completing the race within 29 seconds of Christiansen. Emery then took 11th-13th places as well with Griffin Livingston, Ty Funk and Beau Cook. Bethany Justice placed ninth with a time of 24:56 despite the Lady Spartans fielding an incomplete team.
The Spartans then competed against 33 other schools in the 2017 BYU Autumn Classic in Provo on Saturday. Christiansen again paced the Spartans, coming in 83rd, registering a time of 16:22. The winner of the event was Timpview’s Aidan Troutner with a time of 14:19.1. McKay Meccariello (119th), Bryar Meccariello (149th), Livingston (151st) and Funk (152nd) were next. The Spartans placed in 25th overall.
Emery will host a region meet on Tuesday. The boys will be begin at 4 at the Emery Aquatic Center, and the girls will then begin at 4:05.
