Spartans and Dinos Conclude the Rodeo Regular Season

The Millard High School rodeo was held this past weekend in Delta, ending the high school rodeo regular season for two local teams.

Emery’s Shaylee Gilbert, a new state qualifier, placed 10th in breakaway roping and teammate Makayla Jensen took first place honors.

In team roping Spartans Taylor Wilstead and Ty Gordon place seventh on Friday, while Louie Ivie and his partner Stefan Ramone were fourth on Saturday. Carbon High team member Morgan Jensen was fifth in barrels on Friday and seventh on Saturday. She also placed seventh in poles on Saturday. Emery’s Nathan Urie placed fourth in saddle bronc on Saturday. In tie-down roping Spartan Hayden Cloward placed eighth, Bowdie Jacobsen was ninth on Friday and Ivie was seventh on Saturday.

With all thirty rodeos of the season now concluded, many Carbon and Emery rodeo team members are qualified for the state competition in Heber City on June 1-4. In order to qualify members must have placed in the top 10 in their respective events sometime during the season.

State qualifiers and their events from the Carbon team include: Morgan Jensen, poles and barrels; Afton McCourt, breakaway, goats and team roping; Sadie Waller, poles, queen and reining cow horse; Kourtney Backus, queen; Jacee Kraync, queen; Kolton Rhodes, rifle shoot and trap shoot; Jordon Pierce, rifle shoot and trap shoot; Jaydun Thomas, rifle shoot and trap shoot; Gus Christensen, steer wrestling and team roping; Stash Cornforth, team roping; Kyler Magann, trap shoot; Casey Rich, trap shoot.

Emery team state qualifiers include: Makyla Jensen, breakaway and team roping; Riata Christiansen, goats, poles, queen and reining cow horse; Austin Allred, bull riding and team roping; McKoy Christiansen, saddle broncs, team roping and tie-down roping; Ty Funk, rifle shoot and trap shoot; Danielle Johansen, rifle shoot; Nathan Urie, saddle bronc and team roping; Koy Jensen, saddle bronc; Hayden Cloward, team roping and tie down; Taylor Wilstead, team roping; Ty Gordon, team roping and tie down; Louie Ivie, team roping and tie down; Will Magnuson, team roping; Wyatt Magnuson, team roping; Bowdie Jacobsen, team roping; Dax Hall, team roping; Shaylee Gilbert, breakaway; Jed Kofford, team roping.

Each contestant will compete in two performances at the state finals, and the top 15 competitors will go into the final “short go” on Saturday, June 4. The top four in each event will then advance to the national high school finals held in Gillette, Wyo. in July. Those placing 5-8 qualify to go to the Silver State Rodeo in Winnemucca, NV in July as well.
