Travis Swope was honored on Saturday in Castle Dale when the Spartans welcomed into town the Carbon Dinos. Buckets were passed around to collect donations for the Swope family in honor of their son, who passed away in a car crash several weeks ago. Swope’s parents donned t-shirts with the phrase “Buckle Up for Travis” as they spoke to those in attendance during halftime, thanking the community for its support. They continued their message, pleading for people to wear their seat belts. There was also a fundraiser dance for both Carbon and Emery students after the game.

For the basketball portion of the night, Emery dominated on both sides of the court. Carbon was down Derek Hillman and Ty Anderson (the later has missed the last few games after injuring his wrist in a tournament late last year) and lacked an experienced guard to handle the ball up the court. Collin Lewis and Kaleb Nelson tried to compensate for their missing teammates but it was not enough as Emery ran away with the win, 107-57.

Lewis ended with 17 points while Nelson finished with his second double-double in as many nights, recording 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Emery shot lights out and converted on an outstanding 56% of their field goal attempts on the night, including 39% from beyond the arc. Kyson Stilson and Brodie Tuttle each hit five three pointers to score 26 and 17 points, respectively. Brax Jensen added another 17 points and recently activated Cade Brazier reached 10 points in his second game of the season. The home crowd erupted when Brazier hit his first field goal since returning to the court. Brazier moved around well and will continue to receive limited time as he works his way back onto the court.

Emery (8-3, 0-2 Region 15) will look to get their first region win against a tough Manti team (10-3, 1-2 Region 15) in the Spartan Center on Wednesday. The game will be streamed online and on ETV Channel 10. The Spartans will then continue their pivotal week on the road at North Sanpete (4-8, 0-2 Region 15) on Friday.

Carbon (4-10, 1-3 Region 14) will face Union (5-8, 2-2 Region 14) on Wednesday before the Dinos get an entire week off.
