Spartans Even Region 14 Record With Win *Photo Gallery*

The Emery Spartans held on after a late surge by San Juan Friday night, winning the Region 15 tilt 77-70, evening up their region record at 3-3.

Emery began the game on a 9-2 run, but San Juan charged back to tie the score at 17 just before the first quarter buzzer. A bucket with 20 seconds left in the quarter by Kyson Stilson gave the Spartans the 19-17 lead after one quarter of play.

Emery then doubled up San Juan in the second to take the 41-28 lead into halftime. Easton Gordon and Brax Jensen each scored six points in the quarter.

Stilson converted two, three-point plays in the early part of the third, and Tyler Butler nailed back-to-back threes in the quarter to give the Spartans their largest lead of the game at 60-37 at the two minute mark of the quarter.

San Juan roared back, outscoring Emery 33-17 the rest of the way. The Broncos got within three, 70-67, before Cade Brazier converted a three-point play to push the lead out again at the one-minute mark.

Gordon led all scorers in the game with 18 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Brazier nailed three triples in the game en route to 16 points. Stilson was right behind with 15 points. Butler was next with 10.

Emery (9-6, 3-3 Region 15) will be on the road next week with road contest at Richfield (8-7, 2-4 Region 15) Wednesday and Friday at South Sevier (13-3, 4-2 Region 15).
