After drubbing the Union Cougars in Roosevelt 14-1 on March 25, the Emery Spartans managed just three hits in the rematch on Wednesday, losing 8-2.
The Cougars jumped out quickly on starting pitcher Ridge Nielson, tagging him for three runs in the top of the first. The Spartans responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning but managed just one more run, scored in the fourth, in the game.
Tyson Roper had the only extra-base hit for Emery, notching a double. Nielson picked up his second loss of the season on the mound. Emery committed four errors in the game.
Emery (13-4, 9-0 Region 15) will take its unblemished region record to North Sevier on Friday (11-8, 7-2 Region 15) in a matchup of the top two teams in Region 15. The Spartans beat the Wolves at home on March 10, 14-4, in five innings.
