In a special Thursday night contest, the Emery Spartans traveled to take on the Grantsville Cowboys for a matchup with playoff implications.

Needing to take care of business, the Spartans used a huge 29-point second quarter against the Cowboys in their 50-13 win. It was the second time this season that Emery has eclipsed the 50-point barrier. The Spartans beat Summit Academy 57-44 to open the season back on Aug. 21.

Austin Allred scored five times, two through the air and three on the ground, in the game to go along with 143 yards rushing. He ran the ball just 11 times. Bryce Dugmore also had a rushing touchdown in the game.

Emery (4-4, 2-2 3A North) now sits in a tie for third place in the 3A North standings with Union (4-4, 2-2 3A North). Both teams have one region game remaining, Emery at home versus Juan Diego Oct. 23 and Union at Carbon on the same day. The third place finisher from 3A North will travel to play the #2 seed from the 3A South in the 3A Playoffs, which begin on either Oct. 30 or 31. The fourth place finisher would play the #1 seed from the 3A South.
