At the Spartan’s first game of the boys’ soccer season, the Layton Christian Eagles proved too much for the Emery squad.
Emery took on Layton Christian at the Eagles’ home field Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans battled through the first half, with Parker Sermon scoring a lone goal.
The Spartan’s fell short in the second half, unable to make another connection with the net. The game ended 5-1, with Layton Christian claiming the win.
Emery then traveled to Gunnison Wednesday to take on the Bulldogs, coming back with a win after their loss the previous day.
Sermon was strong throughout the game, pulling of a rare hat trick for the Spartans, making three goals in the game. Brock Winter and Tanyon Allred followed behind Sermon, each making goals for the Spartans, leading to the team’s 5-1 win.
The Spartans will travel to St. George for a tournament this weekend.
