The Emery Spartans split the week with a win and a tie on the soccer field this week.

Tuesday’s win against Gunnison Valley came after a 1-3 bout at a tournament in St. George the week before. The shutout victory was a welcome sight after a rough go at the tournament.

Abdul Ibrahim led the Spartans in the matchup, notching two goals. Juan Prada and Zac Anderson each scored one goal apiece in the win. All four goals for Emery came in the first half.

Elias Morris directed the defense in the game, recording the shutout.

Then, on Thursday, the Spartans traveled to take on North Sanpete. Emery came out of the gates slow, allowing North Sanpete to notch two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 advantage into the break. The Spartans rebounded in the second, adding two goals of their own. The game ended in a tie, 2-2.

Ibrahim did well for the Spartans again, scoring a lone goal. Brock Winter added the other goal for the team.

Next up, the Spartans will host Manti in Castle Dale. The game is slated for Tuesday, March 19 at 4 p.m.
