Spartans Remain Perfect in Region Play With Win Against San Juan

Another strong performance from Koby Butler propelled the Emery Spartans to a 72-61 win over the San Juan Broncos Friday night. Emery notched its fourth Region 15 win in as many tries.

The #1-ranked Spartans got 23 points from Butler, who scored a career-high 30 points and pulled down 12 boards Wednesday night against Gunnison. Bowdie Jacobson continued his steady junior campaign with 18 points, including two treys. Jacobson has averaged 16.8 ppg over his last five games. Beau Roundy pitched in nine points in the win.

Emery held a two-point lead after one quarter before the Broncos tied the game at half, 29-29. The Spartans outscored their opponents 43-32 in the second half.

Emery (14-1, 4-0 Region 15, #1 in 2A) will travel to play Manti (8-8, 3-1 Region 15) on Wednesday. The two last played in the 2A championship on Feb. 28, 2015. The Templars came from behind in the final minutes of the game for a 58-51 victory.
