With a sour taste still in their mouths after a last-second loss Wednesday at Union, the Emery Spartans welcomed the Beaver Beavers to Castle Dale and took out their frustrations on the uninspired visiting team.

Emery used a smothering zone defense to hold the Beavers to just 22 points in the game, including seven total in the first half. Emery won the game 40-22.

Koby Bulter led all scorers in the game with 15 points for the Spartans. Bowdie Jacobson added eight and Zac Jorgensen chipped in seven.

It was all Emery from the opening tip. The Spartans opened up a 10-point lead on the Beavers in the first quarter and extended that lead to 21 with just under three minutes to play in the third. The lead would hover around 20 for the remainder of the game.

The 22 points allowed by Emery is lowest total since the Deseret News started tracking basketball standings in 2000.

Emery (4-1, 0-0 Region 15) will be on the road the next two games, Tuesday at Millard and Wednesday at Delta. The Spartans will then host Richfield on Friday at 7 p.m. on ETV Channel 10.
