Spartans to Play for Fifth Place After Big Win over Merit Academy *Photo Gallery*

Bailey Faimalo and Dillon Wilstead combined for 41 of Emery’s 64 points in the Spartans 64-44 win over the Merit Academy Knights Friday afternoon in the consolation bracket of the 2A playoffs in Richfield.

Emery will play for fifth place Saturday at 11:40 a.m. against the winner of Parowan and Gunnison.

Faimalo continually drove the basket against the Knights, going 11-14 from the line. The team shot a combined 18-26 from the charity stripe after shooting under 60% for the season. Faimalo and Wilstead finished with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Gavin McDermott scored nine and pulled down seven rebounds. Beau Roundy, who saw extended minutes in the game, finished with nine rebounds to lead Emery.

Both the boys and girls teams will play back-to-back Saturday, with the winners of their respective games earning fifth place finishes in the tournament. The girls will play at 10 a.m. against South Summit and the boys will play at 11:40 against either Parowan or Gunnison. Results of the Parowan vs Gunnison game were not available at press time.
