Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox is keeping his promise as he journeys through Utah on the campaign trail, making a stop in all 248 towns and cities the state as part of his run for Governor. He and his crew made it to Carbon and Emery counties last week.

Cox first stopped in Scofield for a small service project on Monday morning before making his way to Helper.

In Helper, Cox, along with his family and campaign team, assisted Helper City Mayor Lenise Peterman and local boy scouts paint over the graffiti under the bridge along the Helper River Walk. Cox took the opportunity during the project to introduce himself personally to all those present at the small gathering.

After his appearance in Helper, the campaign RV drove the band to Castle Heights Elementary. There, Cox volunteered his time to the service project of helping the Price City Youth Council add slats to the fence separating the school from the cemetery behind it. Everyone in the community was invited to join the service project and there were many hands to help. Cox had t-shirts made for participants and those who wore the yellow shirts lit up the field behind the school.

This project has been planned for quite some time. A few months ago, it was brought to the attention of the Price City Council and Carbon School District that children in some classrooms could see gravestones during class. This caused severe problems for a few students who have family members buried in the cemetery. The community came together to help those students stay focused and feel better in their classrooms.

The late afternoon brought Cox and his crew to Wellington City Hall. Here, Cox and his family assisted Wellington Mayor Joan Powell and Wellington Elementary Principal Stacy Basinger paint “BUCKLE UP” on the road that leads down from the elementary to the highway to serve as a reminder to those leaving the school.

East Carbon was the next stop on the 248 list. The Spencer Cox RV and all those aboard stopped in a few places in the little town before ending at Miner’s Trading Post. Cox spoke with many of the locals throughout his stops in East Carbon and Sunnyside. Many people were eager to speak with him and ask questions.

From there, Cox continued on to Green River for a meet and greet event. Green River City Mayor Travis Bacon welcomed Cox along with members of the city council and community. The governor hopeful took time to present on his background as well as answer questions from those in attendance. Topics ranged from immigration and abortion to tax reform.

The week continued with more stops in Emery County. On Thursday, Cox and his crew completed a service project at the old yellow church in Emery Town. During the project, boards for the outside of the church were primed and Cox visited with members of the local historical society regarding the restoration of the church. The visit in Emery was concluded a t-ball game as Cox took time in the pitcher’s mound.

Thursday’s activities ended in Ferron at the Grub Box for dinner. Members of the community, city dignitaries and the county central committee for the Republican party visited with Cox during the event. The Cox team made its way to Millsite Golf Course to meet golf pro Kasey Edgehouse and learn more about the course.

Friday was another busy day as Cox and his team began with breakfast at the Clawson Park. Cox visited with members of the community and they discussed ways to improve the county.

The next stop was the San Rafael Museum in Castle Dale where the city’s mayor and maintenance crew met with Cox. Emery County royalty was also in attendance to meet Cox and discuss life in Emery County. Cox then took time to complete an act of service as he assisted with preparing an artifact display at the museum.

Orangeville was the next stop as the mayor and city council members welcomed Cox to their city. A service project ensued at the Welcome Park in the city, which got help from Cox and his crew.

A brief break for lunch brought Cox to Ponderosa Grill in Huntington to meet with city officials and members of the community. The tour continued to Cleveland where Cox addressed a group of citizens before taking time to plant trees in the park.

The final stop in Castle Country was at the Goodlife Senior Living and Memory Center in Elmo where Cox visited with the manager and residents of the establishment.

Along the drive and after each stop was made, towns and cities were checked off the list on the tail end of the RV.
