The 2017 Emery Rodeo Team

West Millard hosted the final rodeo of the season in Delta on Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13. Several of the Carbon and Emery rodeo team members added points to their standings as they finished the regular season and look forward to state finals in Heber City May 29 through June 3.
Carbon team members placing this last weekend included Morgan Jensen in pole bending and barrels, and Sadie Waller in reining cow horse.
Emery team members adding points to their totals included Caleb Rubio in bull riding, Hayden Cloward as well as Will and Wyatt Magnuson in team roping, Jessie McElprang in breakaway roping, while Riata Christiansen was chosen queen and also placed in reining cow horse. Drake and Jessie McElprang placed in team roping, securing points to qualify for the state finals.
UHSRA State finals begin on Monday, May 29 and continue through the week until the final go on Saturday, June 3 in Heber City. There will be more than 300 participants in the first two rounds and then the top fifteen will compete in the “Short Go” on Saturday.
State Qualifiers from the Carbon Club include Sierra Edwards and Morgan Jensen in barrels and poles, Sadie Waller in reining cow horse and Kagen Rhodes, Jordon Pierce, Kolton Rhodes and Casey Rich in trap shoot. Rifle shoot qualifiers include Kolton Rhodes, Hagen Campbell, Kagen Rhodes and Jordon Pierce.
The Emery Team has two members who are, at present, holding onto first place in their respective areas: Hayden Cloward with partner Whitt Crozier in team roping and Riata Christiansen in queen competition. Both of these participants hold the maximum of 70 points as they enter state finals.
Other Emery team qualifiers include break away contestants Shaylee Gilbert, Jessie McElprang, MaKayla Jensen, Jessica Fox and Riata Christiansen; bulls, Caleb Rubio; goat tying, Riata Christiansen; saddle bronc, Koy Jensen and Ladd Coyne; reining cow horse, Riata Christiansen, Korby Christiansen and Drake Weber; team roping, Hayden Cloward, Will and Wyatt Magnuson, Bowdie Jacobsen, Dax Hall, MaKayla Jensen, Korby Christiansen, Drake Weber and Jessie McElprang; tie down roping, Hayden Cloward, Bowdie Jacobsen, Will Magnuson, Wyatt Magnuson and Korby Christiansen; trap shoot, Trinity Payne.
Utah Junior High School Rodeo Association finals are Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27. The first round starts Friday at 5 p.m., the second round on Saturday morning with the finals on Saturday afternoon. State qualifiers in the junior high division include Kayson Jensen and Byron Christiansen in bareback; Byron Christiansen, Zeek Weber, and Race Gordon in boys’ breakaway; Byron Christiansen in boys’ goats; Christiansen in bull riding; Race Gordon in chute dogging; Byron Christiansen, Race Gordon, and Zeek Weber in ribbon roping; Christiansen and Jensen in saddle bronc; Christiansen and Gordon in team roping; Ruger Payne and Wesley King in rifle shoot.
