Helper City Police Department Press Release

In the early evening hours on Feb. 5, Helper City Police Officers Lakota Clark, Sgt. Sean Draper and Christopher Shaw performed a traffic stop on a maroon 1998 Acura passenger vehicle, which was illegally stopped in the middle of the roadway in downtown Helper. Upon further investigation of both the vehicle and the female driver of the car, the officers discovered the vehicle to be stolen out of the Denver, Colo. area.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 24-year-old Alyssa Marie Welch, was initially found to have four active statewide warrants for her arrest. A subsequent search of the vehicle and Welch’s person following her arrest uncovered a substantial amount of suspected heroin and cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia items. Welch was taken into custody and booked into the Carbon County Jail for drug related charges, along with possessing a stolen vehicle and the warrants for her arrest.

Arrangements were made for the owner of the stolen vehicle to respond to Utah in order to take possession of his car. This investigation is still ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
