Students at Cottonwood Elementary learned that art is really more than just painting or drawing during art week at their school. A kick off assembly on Monday started the week. The assembly, presented by the PTA, explained the week’s activities and showed a video on dancing.
Each of the following days, a video was shown in each classroom: Tuesday, the video was on sidewalk art. Wednesday featured glass blowing and on Thursday the video was mime. On Friday, the morning was spent doing art rotations. Six different artists displayed their talents and let the children experience different art mediums. Gordon’s Floral showed the students the art of flower arranging and making corsages. Meagan Wilberg helped the students become sculptors with clay. Allisha Hughes shared the talent of making cards. Angela Paskett gave each student an outline of a face and with stage make-up, they created different characters.
Cake decorating was experienced with Julie Jones as the instructor and Amanda Lake helped each student on the computer with graphic design. Each teacher was asked to do an art project with their class during the week to be displayed at the school’s Literacy Night on March 22. The students’ artwork will be displayed for the parents/guests to view from 6-8 p.m. that evening.
Art week took place of the Reflections program done in past years.
