The Sunnyside Fire Department received a $5,000 grant from the Utah State Fire Marshal to pay for a hydraulic pump designed to run extraction equipment.
The new pump was needed because replacement parts for the old pump were no longer being manufactured.
The new pump would also allow rescue personnel to use both the cutting and spreading tools at once, which would make extractions easier and faster.
Sunnyside Fire Chief Gen Madrid said the new equipment would “cut down the [rescue] time tremendously.”
