Donations of food and funds poured into a bake sale for Oakley Giraud during the Carbon High Cheer Spring Show on Monday.
Giraud is a nine-month-old child who has been diagnosed with Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a rare retinal degenerative disease. The illness has left Giraud legally blind and eventually she will lose her sight completely.
It is estimated that only 3,000 LCA cases exist in the United States. Because the disease is so rare, little to no funding is available for research and possible treatment. In order to earn funds for LCA research, fundraisers will take place for Giraud. The bake sale is only the first of many to come.
A second bake sale will take place March 10 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Carbon High Drill Spring Show.
