The Matt Warner Chapter of the E. Clampus Vitus are hosting a celebration of Warner’s birthday this coming Saturday, April 9.
The day will begin with a Clamper initiation at 8 a.m. Those that wish to join must contact a Clamper or stop by the Clamper Hall, which is located at 262 South Main Street in Helper. The cost for initiation is $40 and a red shirt costs $20.
The birthday celebration and chuck wagon dinner will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. that afternoon. John Magnuson will speak on the organization of the chapter and explain the use of Warner’s name for the chapter. Following, Dee Warner, Matt’s grandson, will speak on little-known facts of Warner’s life.
Roger Metzger will read “Old Cowboy,” Warner’s poem, before he and Garry Parrott speak on Warner and Butch Cassidy’s first bank robbery in Telluride, Colorado.
