As Helper City’s Main Street is flush with a number of galleries, it was only fitting for the decision to host a special gallery stroll to be made.
This stroll will take place on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will act as a type of opening for the Helper Arts, Music and Film Festival that will take place throughout that weekend. The real focus of the evening will be on the galleries, with all on the street open, but also the live music that will be playing. Culture Connection, usually hosted in Price on Thursdays throughout the summer, will finish on Helper’s Main Street on this evening with a performance by the Deltaz.
One large highlight of this stroll is the “Through Toil and Labor: The Forgotten History of Utah’s Chinese Railroad Workers” exhibit that will be opening at the Western Mining and Railroad museum that evening.
In May, the museum hosted “A World Transformed: The Transcontiental Railroad and Utah.” This new exhibit focuses on the railroad workers that did not receive recognition, such as the Chinese. After the railroad had been completed, the Chinese were not permitted to be citizens and were not included. This information exhibit is a part of the Utah Arts Museum and the Utah Division of State History’s traveling art program.
The city is making the gallery stroll even more fun than usual with a gallery passport that will be given to willing attendees. These passports must be stamped by each gallery with a question pertaining to the gallery that must be answered beforehand. Participants have the entirety of the festival to have the passports completed and prizes will be announced on Sunday.
