USDA Press Release

Price, UT, June 7, 2024 — A new closure order is issued for the Lake Fork Canyon Area on the northern portion of the Manti-La Sal National Forest under Closure Order # 04-10-3-24-03.

The Lake Fork Canyon area is now recommended for day use only by high clearance vehicles; no trailers are recommended due to the rugged nature of the road, and overnight camping is not allowed at this time due to flooding potential and continued presence of large machinery as road work progresses. If persons are on the closed sections of road stated within the Closure Order, a violation notice will be issued to the violator(s). This Order shall be in effect from June 7, 2024, through December 31, 2024, unless rescinded.

The Lake Fork Canyon area is located off of Highway 89 and accessed by the FS 070 road on the Sanpete Ranger District. During spring of 2023, the Lake Fork area experienced a major flooding event during Spring run-off which resulted in roads being washed away or engulfed by new water pathways. Engineering and road crews have worked for several seasons to rebuild the roads within Lake Fork Canyon and will continue to work throughout this area in 2024.

The Closure Order for the Lake Fork Canyon area applies to lands within the Price Ranger District, Manti-La Sal National Forest, the Described Area is all National Forest Service (NFS) lands 300 feet on either side of NFS Road # 50070 (Lake Fork Canyon Road), beginning from the NFS Boundary in Lake Fork Canyon and continuing to the road’s intersection with NFS Road # 50006 (Dairy Fork Road), including all dispersed campsites within 300 feet of the roadway. The Described Road is NFS Road # 50070 (Lake Fork Canyon Road), beginning at the NFS Boundary in Lake Fork Canyon and continuing to the road’s intersection with NFS Road # 50006 (Dairy Fork Road). If persons are on the closed section of these roads, a violation notice will be issued to the violator(s).
