To Billboard or Not to Billboard?

On the north entrance to Huntington stands an empty billboard. At a recent regular city council meeting, Huntington council members and the mayor discussed the possibilities and liabilities of this billboard. The council has been considering leasing this billboard while the city’s lawyer has advised them to get a complete and total cost before making their final decision and not to pay for it until ready to use it. The council will speak to the owners to get a beginning and ending date. No final action has been taken on this matter.

Also at the meeting, Mark Humphrey, manager of Emery Water Conservancy District, explained how important it is to all users of the water to receive title of the water shares in the Joe’s Valley Project. At the present time, though the debt to the Bureau of Reclamation has been paid in full, the transfer of title seems hard for them to relinquish. The council will send a letter to support this cause.

It was decided by the council that proper protocol is important in dealing with dog problems in Huntington after hours. That procedure would require contacting a council member before calling the dog catcher unless it is an emergency, such as a dog bite.

School is rapidly approaching and it was reported that there are some uneven sidewalk edges at the east entrance of Huntington Elementary School that need immediate attention. Mayor Hilary Gordon plans to speak to the Special Service District about help with this issue.

A change in the parking ordinance involving parking on Main Street in front of businesses for long periods of time was made. The change will read, “Businesses who authorize individuals to park longer than two hours in direct violation of this ordinance may risk the re-issuance of your business license.”

The meeting also included the issuing of business licenses to three new businesses, Nicole Jewkes Daycare; Ponderosa Grill, Jim Gordon; San Rafael Hydraulics, Jason Ward.

The council and mayor concluded with their appreciation for the help in a successful Heritage Days Celebration again this year.
