Richfield’s Robert Torgerson was a one-man wrecking crew in yesterday’s baseball game against Emery.В Holding the Spartans to just five hits and striking out 11 batters from his role on the mound, while goingВ 4-for-5 himself, Torgerson blasted a home run and two doubles to bring in 5 of Richfield’s runs in the game.
Emery ultimately lost 14-6, unable to overcome the stellar performance by the Richfield star.
The Spartans fell behind early in the game, allowing one run in the first inning and six more in the second. The early deficit was one they would not overcome, despite rallying to narrow the gap to just three runs after five. Richfield brought five more across in the sixth and topped it off with another in the seventh to beat their region rival.
The loss brings Emery’s Region record to 1-4 and puts pressure on the team to win out to salvage their region schedule. The Spartans next face Manti at home next Tuesday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m.
