On March 7, Rocky Mountain Power recognized Tram Electric, Inc. with the Wattsmart Business Vendor Award for outstanding contributions to the 2017 Utah and Wyoming Wattsmart business programs.
Tram Electric supports the Green Motors Initiative, which provides incentives to utility customers who participate in motor remanufacturing or motor rewinds. When motors on commercial or industrial equipment begin to wear, their energy efficiency may decline. Businesses that invest in rewinds may increase efficiency, often returning a motor to its original efficiency values, known as a green rewind.
Tram Electric is not only the highest participating service center for green motor rewinds in Utah and Wyoming, but it also ranks first in western North America, including British Columbia, Canada.
“We are really proud to be associated with other businesses interested in saving this earth that we have,” said David Zaccaria, president of Tram Electric. “It’s a small part but it makes a difference, and we are proud to play a role in something that makes this area special.”
Zaccaria said while motor remanufacturing can mean time and money for businesses, it saves around 10 times the amount of greenhouse gas emissions than manufacturing a new motor.
In Utah and Wyoming, Tram Electric’s 2017 contributions included green motor rewinds for 78 motors for 14 different customers covering 16,705 horsepower, resulting in an estimated first-year savings of 410,641 kilowatt-hours.
“We applaud Tram Electric for their great effort and contribution in helping our customers be energy efficient,” said Clay Monroe, Rocky Mountain Power customer solutions program manager. “They have been a valuable partner and we appreciate their dedication and focus on this important work.”
