Two Cowboys Qualify for Nationals

Kagen Rhodes, Carbon High rodeo team member, and Korby Christiansen, Emery rodeo team member, qualified to compete at the National High School Rodeo Finals during the UHSRA state finals in Heber last week. Rhodes finished fourth in the rifle shoot and third in trap shoot. Christiansen rode his saddle broncs to a fourth place finish. The finals will be in Rock Springs, Wyo. July 14-20.

Eighteen Emery rodeo team members qualified for state finals and six of them made the call back for the final short go. those competing included Will and Wyatt Magnuson in team roping, Jessie McElprang and Shaylee Gilbert in breakaway, Kayson Jensen in barebacks, and Christiansen in saddle broncs. Jensen earned fourth in the average and fifth in final standings. Christiansen was third in the average and fourth in the finals. The top four in each event will represent the Utah High School Rodeo Team at the national competition.

Christiansen will serve as the UHSRA Student President for the 2019-20 school year. He was elected as vice president for the past year and then advanced to president.
